Description
Princess Henny and the Wonky Eggs is a light-hearted rhyming story with watercolour-style illustrations. It is part of the 'Rhyme Time Tales' series of children's books and celebrates wonky eggs, wonky fruit and vegetables, and all things that look imperfect on the outside but are great inside!
Princess Henny was a happy hen who loved her life on an unusual free-range egg farm in the English countryside. One day, she was distraught to find that she had laid a wonky egg instead of her usual perfect one. In typical drama queen-style, she over-reacts and fears the worst. Thankfully, with the help of her friends on the farm and a visiting television news reporter and film crew, Princess Henny was surprised to discover that farm shop customers really love buying and eating wonky eggs. In fact, they are best-sellers! And why not? Wonky eggs taste just as good as perfect ones!
This amusing and uplifting tale about not judging an egg by its shell is a new interpretation of the old saying 'don't judge a book by its cover'. It's suitable for Ages 2 -8 years. For older children, this simple story can promote discussion about our obsession with the way things look, the myth of perfection, food waste, values and also self-esteem issues.
Although Princess Henny and the Wonky Eggs is set on a fictitious free-range egg farm in Devon, the plot was inspired by a real farm in Berkshire where the author used to buy eggs for her family.
Sarah Innins enjoys writing and illustrating rhyming stories for children, and producing creative resources for the whole family. She is a long-distance grandma, and lives with her husband in Devon, England.
